The Worcester County Conservation District (WCCD) is a voice for our local community, providing leadership on conservation issues and establishing priorities for conservation projects. We identify and address natural resource concerns in local communities, and coordinate public and private resources to meet local needs on a grassroots level. Our Conservation District partners with state and federal agencies such as United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Natural Resource Conservation Services (NRCS) to deliver needed programs, education and technical assistance to their communities. WCCD is a non-funded division of state government established under state law to conserve and wisely manage resources.
A Proven Track Record-WCCD:
Plays a key role each year, in organizing and staffing a hands-on, interactive exhibit themed “Invasive Species in Massachusetts” located in the Big Eastern States Exposition, Massachusetts Building.
Supervisor Joe Smith serves as Chairman of the MACD State Commission, where they meet with state officials on a quarterly basis.
Sponsors and coordinates along with New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission (NEIWPCC) Soil Evaluator Courses to train town health agents and consultants that perform state Title V septic system certification.
Sponsors and coordinates informative quarterly meetings for various towns’ Agricultural Commissions.
Offers community and school based workshops each year on topics as “Maintaining a Vegetable Garden", “What is Agriculture”, “Plant a Tree” and more.
Helps your school or organization with your own tree seedling fundraiser.
Sponsors and serves as President of Massachusett Agriculture in the Classroom.
