Originally a rural farming area, we have grown into a prosperous, community-spirited municipality with a population, as of January 2005, of 17,036 residents.
In June of 1951, the Town adopted a Selectmen-Town Manager form of government, one of the oldest in the Commonwealth.
In addition to having an excellent school system and public library, the municipality provides a full range of services including public water, sewer, and electric power.
The Town encompasses approximately thirty-six square miles, a good portion of which is protected open space, watershed and recreational areas. |
